History of St. Peter's ALC In the manner so typical of Sisters of Mercy, Sister Katherine Nueslein founded St. Peter's Adult Learning Center in 1982 to address the needs of the many neglected individuals with developmental disabilities in Southwest Baltimore City. She knew well from her experience with a developmentally disabled nephew that these individuals need not have empty, isolated lives. Catholic Charities provided financial support for the initial band of ten who gathered for camaraderie and enrichment activities. St. Peter's Adult Learning Center became a licensed service provider under the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in the mid 1980s. In 1987 St. Peter's expanded services to include a supported employment program.
Today, St. Peter's remains a beacon of hope for disadvantaged and disabled individuals. We have intentionally remained small in order to deliver personalized services in a home-like atmosphere. We provide a secure and caring environment where individuals receive support to reach their life goals.
